I have 3 attributes namely SRS_ID type, DSD_ID and Description. While exporting from DOORS to word with book format,i got following style:
SRS_ID : SRS019
DSD_ID : DSD005
a. In case a passive wake up happens.
SRS_ID : SRS020
DSD_ID : DSD006
a. In case a active wake up happens.
SRS_ID : SRS021
The Options used while exporting to word are:
In General tab:
1. Layout: Book
2. Issue warning when an unregistered OLE object is exported as a picture.
In Advanced tab:
1. Use "paragraph style" attribute
But i need the alignment as given below:
SRS_ID : SRS019
DSD_ID : DSD005
a. In case a passive wake up happens.
SRS_ID : SRS020
DSD_ID : DSD006
a. In case a active wake up happens.
SRS_ID : SRS021
Can anyone help me to get the above style?

It seems, that you created the SRS_ID column, using a traceability column and that this column adds a newline after the column. Otherwise you would get:
SRS_ID:...
DSD_ID:...
a. ...
SRS_ID:...
...
If that is the case you need to correct your Layout DXL code (or whatever created that column).

I created the module using the options:
1. Right click --> New ---> Formal Module
Give
2. Name : Module name
3. Object identifier --> Start at : 1
4. Object identifier --> Prefix : SRS
Then clicked "OK".
Then open the module in "standard view", then it appears like, one column for "ID" and another one column for "Description".Then i added different objects.
Now also, if i export in book format, it will appear like:
ID : SRS1
1 Intro1
ID : SRS2
1.1 Sec1
ID : SRS3
1.1.1 Text1
ID : SRS4
2 Intro2
ID : SRS5
2.1 Sec2
ID : SRS6
2.1.1 Text2
ID : SRS7
3 Intro3
ID : SRS8
3.1 Sec3
ID : SRS9
3.1.1 Text3
I didnt know DXL code? Can anyone help me to solve this?

When I create a new module, create some objects I get a similar result. In the document there is a visible separation before each heading, which is because the "Heading" styles of the word document has a paragraph distance configured in my normal template (meaning there is supposed to be a little space before each heading).
Test this for yourself by inserting some text in between the headings of your newly created module.
I am not entirely sure, that this is the reason why you are experiencing the problem stated above, since you are getting a space before each "DSD_ID" or after each "SRS_ID". There are only three reasons for that:
1. The paragraph style has a distance configured (in this case there will be no empty line in the document, but just a distance)
2. In the DOORS column there is a line break before the "DSD_ID" value
3. In the DOORS column there is a line break after the "SRD_ID"
My guess is still nr. 3

You can try to first remove the DSD_ID column and see if you still get the line breaks. Then remove the SRD_ID column and see if you still get the breaks. Regards, Mathias

So it seems that the SRS_ID has the line feed after it. Can you check, if the SRS_ID is a DXL Layout Column, a DXL Attribute or a normal attribute? If this is DXL Layout or DXL Column can you post the DXL code. Mathias

Hi Mathias,
I tried to help ResmyFrancis when he first posted this question in the Grneral Forum.
See
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=348028&tstart=0
I think SRS_ID is a Layout DXL column.
I think all Layout DXL columns have an extra linefeed after them.
I think the extra linefeed is being inserted by \lib\dxl\standard\export\office\word.dxl,
but I am not fluent enough in DXL to prove it or not.

Darnit, you are right :-\ The error is in the "wordDumpColumnValueVBA" function.
If I do the following change:
Buffer titledRTF = create // line 1435
titledRTF = titleString
titledRTF += richTextWithOle(c, o)
applyStyleLockPasteInvoke(objSel, richText tempStringOf titledRTF,"Normal")
delete titledRTF
// who wants a paragraph break after a DXL layout column?
appendParaBreak = false // insert me, line 1440
the line break is gone.

Can you attach the export script to your next post? You are probably using DOORS 9.x and your script differs a little from the DOORS 8.2 script I used.

I am using DOORS 9.2 version and the DXL program is attached with this.
Can you give a DXL program, which will give following pattern, while exporting to Book format:
SRS_ID : SRS019
DSD_ID : DSD005
a. In case a passive wake up happens.
SRS_ID : SRS020
DSD_ID : DSD006
a. In case a active wake up happens.
SRS_ID : SRS021
DSD_ID : DSD007
a. No wake up happens.

Ok, attached is the modified version.
I did another change, so that for a DXL Layout column with an empty title, no ":" will be exported, but just the value. This version of word_forum.dxl will not export a line feed after the DXL layout columns anymore.
This means to get the layout you want, you need to insert a line feed at the right position. To get the layout you want, you would now need to insert a DXL Layout column with the following content before the SRS_ID column:
display " " // do a space with a line feed ...
Then we should be near to what you wanted.

I don't need the line feed for headings.........for that how can i modify the DXL code?
I tried the following DXL code:
if (obj."Object Heading" "" != "") display " "
But it is not working. It again shows unwanted space after heading as given below:

The code file structure shall not be defined within this specification.
2.1.1.2 HEADER FILE STRUCTURE
SRS_ID : SRS_495

In this case you should create your own word template. Make a new document, go to the style "Heading 1", "Heading 2", ... and set the space in the paragraph properties before and after the paragraph to 6 pt. Save the document as a Word Template ".dot". Then when doing the export, go to the advanced settings, deselect "Use Normal Template" and choose your new template instead.
Btw.: You can change the styles in the exported document too.

I am not fluent in MS Word 2007. Can you help me to give the settings for getting the following alignment:
2.1.1 FILE STRUCTURE
2.1.1.1 CODE FILE STRUCTURE
SRS_ID : SRS_9
DSD_ID : DSD_9
The code file structure shall not be defined within this specification.
2.1.1.2 HEADER FILE STRUCTURE
SRS_ID : SRS_495
DSD_ID : DSD_495
The code file structure shall not be defined within this specification.
Hi. The files did not come through. However I think the DOORS problem should be solved, you should read:

or

Sorry, did not see the documents on my first answer ...
You still have line feeds in your document :-\ You need give a complete description of your Export View. Can you please:
a) Copy the module you are exporting
b) Delete all except some sample objects from it, change confidential information
c) Delete attributes not relevant for the export
d) baseline it
e) post a module archive
and tell us which View you used for exporting.

Can u give a DXL code for the following requirement:
1. DXL layout column that only displays "line feed", only if the object is not a heading.
Is it like following ?
if (obj."Object Heading" "" != "") display " "
If not, can you send that DXL code?

But it is still giving one line feed after each heading.
I am facing currently following problem:
Before each Object heading, 2 line feeds are coming. I need one line feed before each Object heading and one line feed before each Object text. I think i have write the DXL code for a new DXL layout column that displays no line feed before each Object heading ( because for Object heading, the line feed is coming automatically ) and one line feed before each Object text.

This export script is driving me crazy :-) Ever thought about using another exporter like WEXP?
Ok the attached script is supposed to work now! The script did not ignore the empty ID columns.
